After recent allegations of antisemitism, Doug Mastriano’s wife Rebecca defended the Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate by saying she and her husband “love Israel more than Jews do.”

“I would like to make a comment on that real quick,” Rebecca “Rebbie” Mastriano said Saturday during a press gaggle. “As a family, we so much love Israel. In fact, I’m going to say we probably love Israel more that a lot of Jews do.”

Doug Mastriano has come under fire in the past for espousing Christian nationalist views and attracting the support of prominent far-right individuals like Andrew Torba and Mike Lindell. Torba is the founder of the social media network Gab, which is notorious for being a haven for fringe and offensive ideas as well as being the platform of choice for the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue killer.

Mastriano’s opponent Josh Shapiro is Jewish, and his religion has been brought up by Mastriano’s campaign before. One of Mastriano’s advisors Jenna Ellis, who previously worked as a lawyer for former President Donald Trump, once said that Shapiro is “at best a secular Jew.” Ellis also recently mocked Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi after her husband Paul was fatally attacked with a hammer in a home invasion Friday.
