Minnesota GOP state representative posts strange video vilifying a Target for adding more parking spots
Last week, Minnesota state Rep. Pam Altendorf (R-Red Wing) posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) criticizing a Target store for building more pick-up parking spaces and starting a “fear campaign.”
In the video, Altendorf insinuated that Target is preparing for something, possibly a revival of COVID restrictions, by building 24 more pick-up spaces so customers don’t have to go into the store and instead use curbside pickup. She expressed concern because the four spots that the store already has “don’t seem to be utilized right now.”
“Just, you know something to think about as we move into the fall here,” Altendorf said in the video. “You know, we’re starting to hear a lot of things reported, COVID’s on the comeback. Might have to go back to masking, all of this.”

What are you preparing for with all of these NEW Drive Up spots…!?!!@Target#Target @RedWing pic.twitter.com/UYTZLqXn2x— Rep. Pam Altendorf (@PamAltendorf) August 22, 2023
Altendorf’s office did not immediately respond to clarify her comments in the post. In the video, she also urged people to “question what they’re planning for.”
The 50-year-old representative started serving the 20A district after first being elected in 2022. During her short time in office, Altendorf opposed much of the popular policies the now Democratically-led state of Minnesota has offered. These laws include a paid family and medical leave program, a clean energy bill and legislation requiring high schools to offer an ethnic studies course, which she said would cause division. She also spoke at an anti-COVID vaccine rally just after taking office.
