On Friday, the Biden administration announced $8.2 billion in funding for several major passenger rail projects across the country.

The announcement dedicates money for the first major high-speed rail projects in U.S. history, including a line that will eventually connect Los Angeles and San Francisco at speeds up to 220 mph. Chicago’s Union station will also receive funds for improvements and capacity expansion.

Montana’s Amtrak rail lines will receive improvements, while the Pennsylvania Keystone Corridor lines will extend further west. The announcement continues President Joe Biden’s promise of quality of life improvements to American infrastructure.
