Amidst the Republican National Committee slashing funding for Hispanic outreach centers across the county, one former center in Milwaukee is set to become an ice cream shop.

Dozens of these outreach centers were introduced by the GOP before the 2022 midterm elections and were meant to boost non-white voter turnout in swing states. After reportedly modest gains on that front, Republicans closed all but five of the outreach centers in January. After Lara Trump took over as the co-chair of the RNC earlier this month, the budget for the remaining outreach centers was slashed.

A report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Lawrence Andrea confirmed that one of these outreach centers in Milwaukee would not be reopening despite the RNC telling the publication the opposite in January. A new location would have been needed for the Milwaukee center since the old building was sold last year and is set to open as an ice cream shop in the coming months.
