In an X post on Thursday, U.S. Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) bragged about receiving an endorsement from the Nebraska Right to Life organization, one month after scrubbing staunch anti-abortion sections from his campaign website.

In the post, Bacon said he was “honored to be endorsed by Nebraska Right to Life.”

According to a report from the Rolling Stone, the deleted section included Bacon’s positive ratings from other anti-abortion organizations. Bacon appears to be following a trend where Republicans are backtracking on past abortion stances while campaigning. Nearly every time reproductive rights have been on the ballot, including in red states, voters have decided to uphold them.

Bacon is running for reelection in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District, and he will likely face his 2022 opponent state Sen. Tony Vargas (D-Omaha) this November. Vargas has recently called out Bacon for supporting abortion restrictions with no exceptions for rape or incest. Bacon claimed this was a lie, despite saying the opposite in a Right to Life questionnaire earlier this year that was necessary to get the organization’s endorsement. In the same questionnaire, Bacon also voiced his support for defunding Planned Parenthood clinics, banning in-vitro fertilization and opposing a proposed state ballot initiative to protect reproductive rights in Nebraska.

Vargas lost to Bacon by just 5,856 votes (or 2.6 percentage points) in 2022.
