In an op-ed published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) revealed that he is voting for President Joe Biden and urged other Republicans to do the same.

Duncan railed against top Republicans like Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr, who have publicly vowed to support the “Republican ticket” in November despite constantly being at odds with President Donald Trump. Duncan cited some of the laundry list of reasons Trump is unfit for office, from his several criminal trials currently underway to his many attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

Duncan was in direct opposition to Trump’s efforts to overturn the legitimate election results in Florida, which included pressuring Gov. Brian Kemp (R) to call a special session to “manually install” electors. In a joint statement in December of 2020, Kemp and Duncan refused to call this special session on the grounds that it would be unconstitutional. After his public opposition to Trump, who he called a “criminal defendant without a moral compass” in his op-ed, Duncan did not seek a second term in 2023.

Duncan, who is a self-proclaimed Republican for life, said he is voting for Biden because he is a “decent person I disagree with on policy.”
