Tennessee representative proposes path for a third Trump term
U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has introduced a constitutional amendment to allow presidents to seek a third term in office, opening a narrow path for a third term for Donald Trump.
I just introduced a resolution to amend the 22nd Amendment to allow President Trump to seek a third term. Read the details.👇https://t.co/OTacpt3ggE

An unnamed House joint resolution states, “No person shall be elected to the office of President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms.” Ogles, who is a member of the Trump-aligned House Freedom Caucus, clearly had Trump in mind as previous presidents who have already served two consecutive terms would be ineligible if the resolution became law (Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama would be ineligible for a third term.)
Trump “has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,” Ogles reportedly said.
Since the resolution would amend 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, it requires a two-thirds majority vote in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to pass. Then, three-fourths of the states, or 38 state legislatures, must approve the ratification of the amendment.
There will likely be little Democratic support for the resolution.
