When a reporter asked McConnell his thoughts about running for reelection in 2026, the 81-year-old senator mumbled an inaudible response before staring into space for several seconds. An aide stepped in to clarify the question, but McConnell still was unable to get any words out. His aides eventually led him away after he struggled to make it through another question.
A similar incident occurred on July 26, where McConnell tailed off mid-sentence before being helped off the podium and out of the room by other senators and aides.
