Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) announced Tuesday he is endorsing various Democratic candidates running against election deniers in key races.

“Democracies and self-governance cannot survive when they live in a bed of lies,” Kinzinger said.

Among the Democratic contenders Kinzinger endorsed are gubernatorial candidates Josh Shapiro (PA) and Katie Hobbs (AZ). Shapiro and Hobbs are facing staunch election deniers Doug Mastriano and Kari Lake in two swing states that were targeted by Trump supporters in the fake elector scheme.
Kinzinger also threw in support for Democratic secretary of state candidates in Nevada, Arizona, Minnesota and Michigan. The secretary of state serves as the top election official in all four states and is responsible for administering voting practices.
Kinzinger has been one of the few Republicans to publicly oppose former President Donald Trump in wake of his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results and incite a violent insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021. He was one of 10 Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching Trump in the former president’s second impeachment trial. Although he is a member of the Jan. 6 committee investigating the events that led up to the insurrection, Kinzinger is not seeking reelection next month.
