Starting Tuesday, Michiganders will see President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign counter the numerous Republican ads in the state via a four-month ad campaign focused on how the president lowered the cost of numerous prescription drugs.

The 60-second ad “Finally” is the latest in the Biden campaign’s $25 million ad blitz over 16 weeks in battleground states, including the Detroit and Grand Rapids markets, highlighting the president’s accomplishments in lowering drug costs, such as allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices and putting caps on insulin prices and out-of-pocket costs for seniors.

“For decades, politicians tried to lower prescription drug costs, but Joe Biden finally got it done,” the ad shared by the campaign states.

In August, the White House announced that on top of capping insulin at $35 a month for Medicare recipients, ten different drugs — many of them diabetes and heart disease drugs — would be the first drugs the federal government would directly negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies over. Last year’s Inflation Reduction Act gave Medicare the ability to negotiate prescription drugs directly, a policy that had been sought by politicians for decades.

“President Biden’s agenda is lowering costs for American families. Next year’s election will be a choice between Joe Biden giving American families breathing room or MAGA tax giveaways for the rich at the cost of the middle class,” said Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz.

Michigan is one of the early states to vote in the 2024 primary schedule, with its open primary taking place on Feb. 27, 2024 and its Republican closed caucus taking place on March 2.
