During an interview on Dawn Stensland’s radio show earlier this month, Pennsylvania GOP Senate candidate David McCormick agreed with the host’s bizarre belief that abortion is a “money laundering operation.”

After McCormick falsely claimed that his opponent Sen. Bob Casey (D) supports abortion until the moment of birth, Stensland declared that she believes the abortion issue is a money laundering operation.

“I always say the abortion issue is really not about reproductive rights. It’s not, it’s really, to me personally,” Stensland said. “Look at the money, and it’s a money laundering operation. Look at the money that goes from Democratic administrations to Planned Parenthood.”

McCormick responded in agreement while also saying he supports cutting funding for Planned Parenthood clinics.

“Yeah, and you know, Bob Casey’s position and others is federal funding, which I am opposed to,” McCormick said. “So, I agree with you. But listen, we’re going to spend a lot of time talking about it I’m sure on the campaign trail because we’ll get asked. And you know, that’s where I stand on it.”

Despite his opposition for funding Planned Parenthood clinics, McCormick’s campaign website claims that he favors abortion exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

The abortion conspiracy theory has been echoed by other Republicans in the past, such as former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon. During an interview in 2022, Dixon claimed that Planned Parenthood was employing a “business model” to introduce sex to children to profit off high schoolers seeking abortions.

Casey is seeking his fourth term in office and he holds a slight lead over McCormick in recent polling for the November general election. Meanwhile, McCormick has never been elected to public office but did serve in the Commerce and Treasury Departments as an undersecretary after being nominated by the Bush administration in 2005.
