At a Mar-a-Lago gala on Tuesday night in Palm Beach, Fla., former President Donald Trump (R) praised Chinese President Xi Jinping, one day before President Joe Biden (D) was set to meet the foreign leader.

Trump is known for praising authoritarian officials like North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and he chose the day before Biden’s summit with Jinping in California to praise the leader according to a video obtained by Heartland Signal.

“We have a guy who sees President Xi of China, he’s like a piece of steel,” Trump said. “Strong. Smart. There’s nobody in Hollywood who could play the role.”

Trump went on to bash Biden for “looking weak” compared to other leaders.

“We have a man who can’t put two sentences together… We have a guy who can’t speak. It’s very dangerous for our country,” Trump said.

Trump is currently the frontrunner for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. During his term as resident, Trump heightened tensions with China with a trade war and visa restrictions on students. Wednesday marks Biden’s first in-person meeting in over a year with Jinping, as he has been trying to “change the relationship for the better” with two wars raging in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
