During an event in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania Senate candidate David McCormick bragged about spending half of his time with wealthy donors.

“I am spending half my time with donors. The most expensive race in the country, I am nationalizing the race,” McCormick said in audio provided to Heartland Signal. “If you vote for me, you are voting for winning the Senate, blah blah blah. So, I’m everywhere across the country, mostly with really wealthy people, where you will all be in 20 years. Or many of you. And I also spend half my time in Pennsylvania, where the median income is $55-60K.”

Last month, several ultra-wealthy billionaires hosted a fundraiser for McCormick’s campaign, where attendees paid anywhere from $3,300 to $24,500 per person just to show up.

McCormick has also received criticism about his residency in Pennsylvania, as he previously admitted to spending a lot of time at his $16 million mansion in Connecticut’s Gold Coast. During his time as the CEO for the global software company FreeMarkets, McCormick also contributed to mass outsourcing of American jobs, including thousands out of Pennsylvania.

McCormick is currently the frontrunner on the GOP side vying for incumbent Sen. Bob Casey’s (D) U.S. Senate seat. Recent polls suggest a slight edge for Casey, who reportedly received 59,000 individual contributions in the last quarter of 2023. With Democrats currently holding a thin 51-49 majority in the Senate, Pennsylvania’s race could determine which party holds the majority in Congress’s upper chamber.
