The 40-year-old Deluzio is a former naval officer who was first elected to Congress in 2022. In his brief tenure in Washington, Deluzio has advocated for Medicare for All, labor rights expansion and protecting reproductive rights. Deluzio held a major fundraising edge over Mercuri going into the election, with $4.15 million in total contributions opposed to Mercuri’s $1.28 million.

Mercuri has been a member of Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives since 2021. During his run this cycle, Mercuri associated himself with Jan. 6 deniers and taken a stance against abortion rights. In 2021, Mercuri voted against making abortion a constitutional right in Pennsylvania, co-sponsored a six-week abortion ban and scrubbed his anti-abortion stance from his campaign website.
