“He is the commander in chief, he is the president, he is the decider in chief and he is the CEO,” Meuser said on Friday. “Our role is really to be more of a supportive board of directors so we can implement what the American people voted for.”

After Congress spent weeks negotiating a bipartisan continuing resolution — which included disaster relief and aid for farmers — and prepared to vote on it this week, the legislation was torpedoed by Trump’s advisor Elon Musk. Musk took to his own platform X on Wednesday to publicly bash the bill, calling it “criminal” and “unconscionable,” among other negative descriptions.

Musk, who reportedly spent $277 million to elect Trump and his Republican allies this cycle, also shared a post saying anyone who votes for the spending bill deserves to be primaried. Trump eventually followed suit with his own public statements about the “ridiculous and extraordinarily expensive Continuing Resolution” that his hand-picked House Speaker Mike Johnson helped negotiate.
