Donald Trump Jr. flirts with idea of his father awarding Kyle Rittenhouse the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Continuing the right-wing lionization of Kyle Rittenhouse, Donald Trump Jr. shared a doctored image on Instagram of former president Donald Trump, his father, awarding Rittenhouse the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
“2024??? Who Knows?” Trump Jr. captioned the post, which got over 76,000 likes in its first hour.
Trump Jr. apparently used an image of conservative economist Arthur Laffer’s 2019 award ceremony with Rittenhouse’s head edited over Laffer’s.
Rittenhouse was charged with multiple felony counts, including first-degree homicide and attempted homicide, after he shot three people, killing two, during protests over the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis.
He was found not guilty of all charges last week.
Trump Jr. first responded to the Rittenhouse’s acquittal by saying in a now-deleted tweet that he and gun lobbying group Gun Owners of America would gift Rittenhouse an AR-15 rifle in solidarity.
Representatives Matt Gaetz, Madison Cawthorn and Paul Gosar have all offered Rittenhouse internships in their offices.
Gaetz has been under investigation by the Department of Justice over accusations that he violated federal sex trafficking laws and had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, The New York Times reported in March.
Cawthorn called for a second iteration of the January 6 insurrection at an August rally, the Daily Beast reported.
Last week, Paul Gosar was censured by the house and stripped of his committee assignments over a violent video he posted to Twitter. The edited video depicted him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Rittenhouse’s lead defense attorney, Mark Richards, called the job offers “disgusting,” Insider reported.
“They want to trade on his celebrity, and I think it’s disgusting.”
