This week, after a botched campaign video in a grocery store, Pennsylvania Senate GOP nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz faced scrutiny for falsely claiming he only owns two homes.
In a report from The Daily Beast, a video shows Oz taking a question on the campaign trail about how many houses he owns.
“Legitimately, I own two houses, but one of them we’re building on, the other ones I rent,” Oz answered.
However, Oz’s financial disclosure, which he had to submit so he could run for the Senate, shows that he owns at least six homes, and two of them are in Turkey. Most if not all of these homes are priced in the multimillion-dollar range. Oz’s opponent, Democratic nominee John Fetterman, has been adamant to point out the inconsistencies in Oz’s messaging via his Twitter account.
Fetterman’s campaign also announced that it raised $500,000 in just 24 hours after a video of Oz criticizing Joe Biden for the price of “crudité” vegetables went viral earlier this week. In the video, Oz also states that he is in a grocery store called “Wegner’s,” which does not exist. (The supermarket chains Wegmans and Redner’s do exist, however.)
When asked how he got the name of the store wrong during an interview on Newsmax, Oz stated that he was tired from campaigning and that he sometimes forgets the names of his children.
Fetterman has been successfully utilizing his online presence to point out the flaws of Oz’s campaign messaging, which has revolved around making life better for working class people. Recent polling shows that Fetterman is leading Oz by as much as 18 points for Pennsylvania’s coveted Senate seat.
