During an appearance on Fox2 Detroit on Thursday, Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Kristina Karamo said she will never resign amid efforts from members of her own party attempting to remove her from power.

“They have not followed the process to remove anybody,” Karamo contended. “I have not received any signatures to remove anybody. They have not followed any process. How can you say that they can conduct business when they haven’t followed the bylaws. Rocky [Raczkowski], I will never resign.”

Karamo was first elected as the Michigan GOP chair last February, and her leadership has led to significant financial hardship and ideological divide. Karamo’s co-chair Malinda Pego, who ran alongside the polarizing Republican, voiced her support for Karamo’s removal in an email she sent out last month.

Last November, Karamo removed several of her most vocal critics from positions of power within the Michigan GOP. Prior to and after her election, Karamo spread several highly questionable conspiracy theories, including former President Donald Trump’s false election claims. When asked if she believes Trump won the 2020 presidential election, Karamo falsely claimed there was widespread election fraud.

“I sat there and watched as election corruption occurred, the media covered it up and labeled us all crazy as to what we saw,” Karamo said. “The reality is this, the people who wine and complain the most about ‘well she’s holding this party back.’ What have they done the years they had the party besides lose?”

A meeting is planned for Saturday where a group of Republicans will consider the criteria needed to vote Karamo out of her position. According to the party’s bylaws, 75% of the committee members are needed to remove Karamo from power. Karamo contends that the process is unlawful and there are not enough votes to oust her.
