Christian Nationalist Michigan Republican Josh Schriver is also a rapper
When Michigan state Rep. Josh Schriver (R-Oxford) isn’t spreading harmful conspiracy theories or begging the Supreme Court to remove protections for gay marriage, he apparently creates religious-themed rap music.
When Michigan state Rep. Josh Schriver (R-Oxford) isn’t spreading harmful conspiracy theories or begging the Supreme Court to remove protections for gay marriage, he apparently creates religious-themed rap music.
Schriver’s most listened to tracks on Soundcloud include “Thank you Jesus,” “Who is Christ,” and “Christ is Risen From the Grave.” His three albums released over the past year — “Not For Profit” from last November, “Not For Profit 2” from last month and “Grassroots LP” from earlier this month — is likely what the representative has been working on in the past year since he was disciplined by the state legislature.
Right Wing Watch first posted a video of his song “Call On God” (actual title “CALLONGODApr520251148AM”) last week with the title “Don’t Quit Your Day Job, Michigan State Rep. Josh Schriver.” Wonkette’s Robyn Pennachia called Schriver’s latest release “somehow worse than you’d ever imagine,” and music critic Anthony Fantano called “Call On God” the worst single released in 2025 so far, although he preferred that Schriver rap instead of legislate.
In response to the exposure, Schriver has been posting about his music in recent days, claiming his music-making career dates back at least 10 years. He also responded to Fantano’s video on X with “AW SHUCKS.”
In February 2024, Schriver was stripped of his staff, committee assignments and use of his office in Lansing after sharing a racist post on X depicting the great replacement theory. This theory is perpetuated by white nationalist and far-right extremist groups, and it claims that white people are being purposely “replaced” in Europe and the United States.
Last December, Schriver renewed his calls for the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, which protects the right to gay marriage in the country. Schriver claimed in an X post that gay marriage should be illegal again and that this position is “not remotely controversial, nor extreme.”
Schriver has also taken draconian stances against pornography, birth control and child marriage restrictions.
