Pennsylvania state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie has won the state’s 7th Congressional District seat, flipping a tossup seat for the GOP.
Mackenzie was declared the winner when AP News called the race Thursday afternoon. As of 5:00 p.m. EST, he had over 200,000 votes. Incumbent Rep. Susan Wild (D) lost her seat after garnering just over 195,000 votes.
Mackenzie has served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 2012. Despite his campaign website promising to protect American manufacturing, Mackenzie indicated in the past that he supports automating the industry. A report from June also showed that Mackenzie lied about his age on his Tinder profile, saying he was eight years younger than he actually was.
According to receipts from the Federal Elections Commission, Wild outraised Mackenzie by $6.2 million in terms of total contributions. Election forecasters projected the race anywhere from a tossup to Leans Democrat before the election on Tuesday, contributing to an upset victory for Mackenzie.
