Georgia Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker confusingly attempted to explain how air pollution works to a group of meet-and-greet attendees Saturday.

“Since we don’t control the air, our good air decided to float over to China’s bad air. So when China gets our good air, their bad air got to move,” Walker said about the climate. “So, it moves over to our good air space. Then now, we got to clean that back up.”

Walker was allegedly trying to explain how American environmental regulations and the Green New Deal are unnecessary, but it is unclear how “air moving to China” holds any explanation to that point.

The candidate made the claims at a Hall County Republican Party Independence Day picnic, where local reporters were turned away even as it was advertised as “open to everyone.” However, the party livestreamed Walker’s speech through Facebook Live.

There are several instances of Walker publicly misleading people to gain favorability, including a 2019 speech where he falsely claimed to have worked as a law enforcement officer and as an FBI agent. Walker has recently been criticized by his own campaign workers for being a “pathological liar.” The former football player previously condemned absentee fathers in the United States and called them a “major problem.” Meanwhile, Walker failed to disclose several children he has fathered over the years that he has little contact with, keeping that information secret even from his own campaign.

Over the past decade, the former football star has been active in Republican politics and been an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump and his election fraud narrative. The former president endorsed Walker in his primary race, which he went on to win in May. He will face incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock, who won the special election for Georgia’s Senate seat in 2020.
