Miller-Meeks lies about Trump’s Venezuela operation, falsely claims no one was killed (dozens were)

U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) has flagrantly misrepresented the death toll of President Donald Trump’s attack on Venezuela, saying no one was killed when sources say dozens were.

During an interview on “The Todd Starnes Show” on Monday, Miller-Meeks falsely claimed that there were no deaths involved with the operation to kidnap Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Reports from Drop Site Daily and The New York Times confirmed that at least 80 people were killed by U.S. bombs in the operation, according to a senior Venezuelan official. Still, Miller-Meeks described it as “brilliantly planned and brilliantly executed.”

“And not only that, remember, there were no civilian casualties or military casualties, so there were no deaths,” Miller-Meeks said.

Cuba said 32 of its citizens were killed during the attack, while Venezuela confirmed that both civilians and members of the military were among the casualties.

Miller-Meeks also claimed that Trump has the “constitutional and legal authority” to order the attack without congressional approval, which has been proven false by legal experts. Trump himself has confirmed that Congress was not notified about the operation until after it was complete, but that oil companies did have prior knowledge of the attack.

Miller-Meeks did not immediately respond to a media inquiry to clarify her statements.

The 70-year-old congresswoman also applauded Trump’s takeover of the country, implying that the U.S. could be involved in other regime changes in the future.

“This may end up toppling the regime, the Castro regime in Cuba. Certainly ,we see what’s happening in Iran. And I think this is going to have repercussions far beyond Venezuela.”

One of Trump’s main talking points while running for president was to end foreign wars, regime changes and nation-building, making the Venezuela operation a complete reversal of his “America First” policy.
