Cindy Burbank, Nebraska’s Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate race, submitted paperwork Friday to remove herself from the November ballot, a move that could clear the way for nonpartisan candidate Dan Osborn to challenge incumbent Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts.
A ballot measure that would let Nebraska voters decide whether to limit sports participation in public K-12 schools and colleges to teams that are biologically male, female or co-ed has enough signatures to be on the November ballot, the conservative-leaning group behind it announced Tuesday.
Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen already handed over the state’s voter data to the federal government. Now, the Nebraska Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit trying to stop the transfer, ruling the case is moot because the records are already gone. Voting rights groups say the fight now moves to the legislature to protect voter privacy.
