Scott Perry says he opposes federal abortion ban, despite co-sponsoring one for the last six years

U.S. Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) said last Thursday that he does not support a federal abortion ban, even though he has been the co-sponsor of a national abortion ban since 2018.

U.S. Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) said last Thursday that he does not support a federal abortion ban, even though he has been the co-sponsor of a national abortion ban since 2018.

During an interview with Fox 43’s James Corrigan, the former Freedom Caucus chairman indicated that he agrees with former President Donald Trump’s recent opposition to a federal abortion ban.

“Let’s honor that [Dobbs v. Jackson decision], let’s honor the court’s decision and then have the states figure that out so that we have those decisions being made locally where they should be,” Perry said.

Despite this recent pledge, Perry has been a supporter and co-sponsor of the Life at Conception Act since 2017. If passed, this bill would prohibit abortion at the federal level with no exceptions for rape or incest. It would also restrict in-vitro fertilization.

Perry’s seat is vulnerable in the upcoming elections in November, where he will face former news anchor Janelle Stelson for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District seat.
