An ad attacking U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin was reportedly taken down after it falsely accused the Wisconsin senator of cutting Medicare.

When the original ad aired, it claimed that the Democrat voted to “cut Medicare funding and use that money to subsidize electric vehicles.” This comment refers to Baldwin voting for the Inflation Reduction Act, which expanded Medicare benefits by capping insulin and prescription drug prices.

After OnMedia, the company who ran the ad, was contacted by attorneys from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, it took down the ad and and replaced with an alternate version of that stated Baldwin voted to “use Medicare money for electric vehicle subsidies, instead of seniors.”

The ad was bought by the GOP political action committee Restoration PAC, which is largely funded by Republican mega-donor and Schlitz beer heir Richard Uihlein. After the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission Supreme Court decision, Uihlein began donating millions to far-right political candidates in the Midwest.

Baldwin’s campaign responded by condemning the ad’s contents and calling out the GOP for lying.

“Tammy’s record is clear: she’ll always protect Medicare, always stand up for seniors, and fight for every Wisconsinite and their families, no matter their age or ZIP code,” said spokesperson Jackie Rosa.

Baldwin will face California banking executive Eric Hovde in November as she competes for a third term in office.
