Republican Mike Rogers announces second consecutive Senate run in Michigan

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R) announced his intentions to again run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, vying for the seat that incumbent Sen. Gary Peters (D) will not attempt to keep in 2026.

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R) announced his intentions to again run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, vying for the seat that incumbent Sen. Gary Peters (D) will not attempt to keep in 2026. Rogers announced his run in a campaign ad on Monday, where he asserted that President Donald Trump needs allies in the Senate to help bring back manufacturing jobs and lower the costs of groceries and prescription drugs. During his time near 15 years in Congress, Rogers was an avid supporter of free trade agreements that contributed to the loss of domestic manufacturing jobs in the United States. Trump’s tariff policy is also set to increase the cost of goods for consumers in the United States. Despite serving 20 years as an elected official at the state and federal level, Rogers also claims that “a new generation of leadership” is needed in Washington. Rogers lost to now-Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D) by 19,006 votes last November. Despite there being no incumbent in the last race as well, Rogers told Steve Bannon that his chances are good in 2026 because there is no incumbent.
