Judge extends restraining order against Wisconsin Republican state Sen. Cory Tomczyk
Last week, Dane County Judge Mario White extended a temporary restraining order against Wisconsin state Sen. Cory Tomczyk (R-Wausau) in relation to a physical altercation last month.
The altercation involved Brett Hulsey, a Democratic candidate for governor in Wisconsin. On Jan. 20, Hulsey recorded a video of himself approaching Tomczyk about his stance on tactics used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Tomczyk proceeded to shove Hulsey and tell him to leave.

In a statement to WisPolitics, Tomczyk said Hulsey has anger issues.
“I helped escort Mr. Hulsey out the door of his private event while he yelled ridiculous statements comparing ICE to Hitler,” Tomczyk said. “It appears that Mr. Hulsey has anger issues and I hope that he finds the help he needs to get better. I call on the Democrat Party of Wisconsin to denounce the unhinged actions of one of their candidates for governor.”
Last Wednesday, Hulsey made a Facebook post saying Tomczyk did not attend the court hearing.
White rescheduled the hearing for Feb. 18 in front of Judge Nia Trammell, according to State Affairs’ paywalled newsletter.
Hulsey also alleged that Tomczyk was armed when the altercation happened, to which Tomczyk’s office has denied.
