According to a new poll from South Dakota News Watch, nearly half of Gov. Kristi Noem’s (R) constituents have an unfavorable view of the politician.
The poll comes after Noem admitted in her new book that she disturbingly gunned down her dog and a pet goat in a gravel pit. As one of the many candidates for former President Donald Trump’s running mate this year, Noem said the story reflects her courage to do anything that is “difficult, messy and ugly” when it comes to politics. The poll also suggested that nearly 60% of South Dakota voters — and 55% of Republicans — do not want Noem as Trump’s vice president pick.
Another possible reason for Noem’s dip in popularity may be her ongoing dispute with Native American reservations in her state. After accusing reservation leaders of harboring and profiting from Mexican cartel leaders, Noem was banished by all nine Tribes in South Dakota and accused her of conducting a political stunt.
In a recent press conference, Noem refused to apologize to the tribes and questioned why they did not banish the cartels instead.
