Kentucky’s McConnell discharged from hospital after ‘experiencing flu-like symptoms’
Kentucky Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell was discharged from a hospital Tuesday and is working from home, according to his office.
McConnell had checked himself in last week “after experiencing flu-like symptoms,” a spokesperson said.
“Senator McConnell was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is grateful for the outstanding care he received,” McConnell’s spokesperson said Wednesday. “He is feeling better and will be working from home this week on the advice of his doctors.”
Last week, Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers said in Frankfort he expected the senior senator to be “back at it” soon.
Stivers, a Manchester Republican, said in a floor speech that McConnell had been “out texting and calling from a hospital bed” and discussed federal funding going to Kentucky in a package signed by President Donald Trump last week.
McConnell, who will be 84 on Feb. 20, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984. He announced last year that he would not seek reelection in 2026.
