The committee showed a series of text messages exchanged between Sean Riley, one of Johnson’s staff members, and an aide to Pence. The exchange happened on Jan. 6 during the recess caused by the riots at the Capital.
Prior to the joint session resuming, Riley reached out saying that Johnson needed to hand something to the Pence. When asked what it was, Riley said they were, “alternate slate of electors for MI and WI because archivist didn’t receive them.”
This document contained false confirmation that President Donald Trump won the electoral votes for Wisconsin and Michigan. It was signed on Dec. 14, 2020 by ten Wisconsin Republicans posing as electors at the direction of the Trump campaign. Similar meetings to produce fake elector documents were held in other battleground states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona and New Mexico.
Pence’s man responded, “Do not give that to him.”
Following this exchange, Pence went on to count the remaining lawfully submitted electoral votes, which affirmed that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election.
