President Joe Biden gave a speech in Chicago Wednesday about reversing the conservative policy of trickle-down economics through his new “Bidenomics” plan.

The speech was held at the Old Chicago Main Post Office on Wednesday morning with prominent Illinois Democrats like Gov. J.B. Pritzker and U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth in attendance.

“We’re not going to continue down the trickle-down path as long as I am president,” Biden said. “This is the moment we are finally going to make a break and move away from economy as existed in a fundamentally different direction.”

According to Biden, his economic plan includes making smart investments in America, educating and empowering workers to grow the middle class and promoting competition to lowers costs and help small businesses. He also highlighted taxing the rich and investing in critical economic sectors. Biden highlighted several key industries for government support like silicon chip manufacturing, infrastructure and national security.

“I’m not here to declare victory on the economy,” Biden continued. “I’m here to say we have a plan that’s turning things around incredibly quickly. We have more work to do.”

Economic policy will likely be one of Biden’s main talking points as the 2024 presidential race ramps up. Although Biden will not face significant opposition in the primaries, whoever becomes the Republican frontrunner will undoubtedly use inflation as a main weapon against the president. White House officials and some economists believe the worst of inflation is behind us, but polls suggest the public remains convinced Biden is to blame for the economy.
