Elon Musk hit with another lawsuit for ‘bribing’ Wisconsin voters

A new lawsuit has reportedly been filed against Elon Musk for giving cash to Wisconsin voters who supported conservative state Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel before he was defeated in April.

A new lawsuit has reportedly been filed against Elon Musk for giving cash to Wisconsin voters who supported conservative state Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel before he was defeated in April.

First reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the lawsuit was filed by the liberal watchdog group Law Forward, who says Musk offering $1 million cash payments to Wisconsin voters eroded public confidence in elections. The lawsuit seeks to prevent Musk from conducting what they call a “civil conspiracy to violate Wisconsin laws” in the future, and it asks a Wisconsin judge to label the activity as bribery.

“We are fighting for free and fair elections,” said attorney Jeff Mandell of Law Forward. “We believe our democracy demands better than schemes like the one detailed in our complaint. So, we are working to hold Musk accountable and stop this from becoming the new normal.”

Three different people were given $1 million checks by Musk in exchange for their support for Schimel, despite multiple, last-minute efforts by state Attorney General Josh Kaul to get state and federal courts to stop it. Musk also reportedly spent at least $20 million of his own money in what became the most expensive state Supreme Court race in American history. The total spending in the race, which saw liberal candidate Susan Crawford secure a decisive victory, exceeded $100 million total.

Crawford’s 10-point win, a large margin for a purple state like Wisconsin, which President Donald Trump won by just 29,397 votes last November, thanks in part to nearly $300 million in donations from Musk.

After making himself the face of Schimel’s failed campaign, Musk took a step back from the Republicans’ national messaging until his eventual crash out on X last week, which saw him accuse Trump of being named in the Jeffrey Epstein files. Musk later said Wednesday morning that his posts went too far.
