Sean Duffy, ‘sex-crazed’ reality star turned congressman, set to join reality-star-turned-President-elect Trump’s cabinet

Sean Duffy, the former Republican congressman from Wisconsin and star of MTV’s “Real World,” has been tapped to join another reality star turned poltician’s endeavors, this time as President-elect Donald Trump’s Transportation secretary. Monday’s announcement comes as no surprise given Trump’s long-standing relationship with Fox News, which has increasingly shaped his cabinet selections.

Duffy first rose to national fame in 1997, when he appeared on the reality show “The Real World: Boston.” He gained infamous notoriety for being the most “sex-crazed” contestant on the show, which was a staple of MTV’s early programming. Years after his reality TV fame, Duffy was elected as a Republican to Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District in 2010, a position he held until his retirement in 2019.

During his eight years in Congress, Duffy built a reputation as a staunch conservative. He was known for his vocal support of Trump’s policies, particularly in areas of tax reform, deregulation and health care. His legislative career was also marked by a willingness to inflame partisan battles for President Trump’s agenda, even at the expense of getting legislation passed.

Following his retirement from Congress, Duffy joined Fox News, where he became a regular commentator and offered strong support for Trump’s policies while often criticizing the Democratic Party and President Joe Biden. His presence on the network solidified his role as one of the many Fox News loyalists who have found their way into key positions in Trump’s orbit.

While Duffy’s background in reality TV and his media career may seem far removed from the traditionally technical and policy-driven role of Transportation secretary, his appointment is in line with Trump’s broader strategy of surrounding himself with individuals who share his political vision and media savvy. Like many of Trump’s other cabinet picks, Duffy’s political ties and media credentials have played a significant role in his selection, reinforcing the influence of Fox News in shaping the president-elect’s personnel choices.

As Trump continues to fill his cabinet with loyalists, Duffy’s appointment as Transportation secretary further underscores the Trump administration’s preference for individuals who resonate with his populist, media-driven approach to governance, rather than outright qualifications.
