Michael Flynn pleads the Fifth to Jan. 6 committee, then endorses Doug Wardlow for Minnesota AG

On Wednesday, Doug Wardlow announced that he received an endorsement from former Trump advisor Michael Flynn, who less than a day prior was implicated by the Jan. 6 committee for endorsing political violence.

Wardlow is running for attorney general in Minnesota, where he previously served as a state representative from 2011-2013. He previously ran for Minnesota Attorney General in 2018 and is now hoping for a rematch with current AG Keith Ellison, who narrowly beat him last time.

After serving in Minnesota’s state congress, Wardlow became a lawyer for the Alliance Defending Freedom, an anti-LGBTQ organization where he worked to try to eliminate gay marriage in Minnesota. Recently, Wardlow joined the legal team of MyPillow as a general counsel to owner Mike Lindell, who is the proponent of several debunked far-right conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election.

Despite the Minnesota Republican Party already endorsing Jim Schultz for attorney general, Flynn gave Wardlow an endorsement on behalf of MAGA Republicans.

“Doug Wardlow is a Constitutional conservative and patriot who we can trust to stand up for law and order, election integrity, and the Constitution,” Flynn said in his endorsement. “He is committed to making Minnesota and America great again.”

His endorsement of Wardlow comes less than one day after the Jan. 6 Committee released video of him pleading the Fifth Amendment when asked whether he believes in the peaceful transition of power in America and if the Jan. 6 riot was justified.

Flynn formerly served as President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor, a position he resigned from in 2017 for misleading senior White House officials. The former U.S. general also sought a presidential pardon for his behavior.

In January, Wardlow expressed support for the Jan. 6 rioters during a candidate forum and said he would defend them in federal court.
