Bernie Moreno, a U.S. Senate candidate from Ohio, has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on former President Donald Trump this year.

According to Federal Election Commission filing reports, Moreno’s campaign spent $13,120.88 for “Event Catering” at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida. Mar-a-Lago is the primary residence of Trump and the site of an FBI raid to recover stolen classified documents hidden in the home. On April 12, the same date attached to the event catering filings, Trump made a post on Truth Social supporting Moreno’s bid for the 2024 U.S. Senate race in Ohio.

According to The New York Times, Moreno also made a $100,000 donation to Trump’s dying super PAC. The PAC, Save America, had a reported $105 million to its name last year but is now down to just $4 million after Trump had to pay a mountain of lawyer fees. Moreno and his wife Bridget also made the maximum individual contribution ($3,300) to Trump’s presidential campaign.

Moreno is a businessman joined the Ohio Senate race earlier this year in a rally where he also called for reparations for white people who died in the Civil War (he is Colombian-American.) He will be facing Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and former Ohio state Sen. Matt Dolan in the Republican primary on March 19. LaRose is the author of Issue 1, a ballot initiative in Ohio aimed at keeping access to abortion to a minimum in the state. Despite having a more far-right presentation than LaRose, Moreno has used Issue 1 as a point of contention to criticize his opponent.
